About Fronius

Founded in 1945 by Günter Fronius in Austria, Fronius is an international company, it started mainly as a manufacturing and welding company. Since it’s beginning Fronius has launched into other markets such as solar inverters, batteries and electricity monitoring devices

More specifically Fronius has been manufacturing solar inverters for over 3 decades.

The Fronius Inverter is made in Austria and is extremely popular in Australia, it’s developed somewhat of a cult following amongst installers and retailers.

The Fronius Range

The inverter range with Fronius is fairly extensive, it covers single phase, three phase, commercial installations and zero export installations.

Fronius Primo – this is Fronius’s single phase inverter range, the most sold version in Australia. The Fronius primo covers power categories from 3kW-8kW, unlike many of their “competitors’ ‘ who may only cover 3 inverters sizes up to 6kW’s.

Fronius Symo – the Fronius Symo is the three phase inverter range, used only on three phase installations. Again, this inverter covers many power categories from 3kW to 20kW.

Fronius Eco – This inverter is inverter range is a three phase inverter for commercial installations. The power categories are 25kW-27kW.

What Technology Do They Use?

The main criticism of the Fronius inverter is it’s noise but there is a good reason for this. Fronius inverters have what they call “Active Cooling Technology” which essentially means there is a fan inside the inverter to keep it cool. Simple, yet genius.

Fronius claims the main benefit of the technology is longer service life and higher yield due to better performance. We would tend to agree.

When researching Fronius inverters, you’ll hear a lot about their Snap In Inverters which is another great Fronius design. The benefit of the Snap In Inverters is mostly for the installer of the unit, it comes with an easy to fit mounting bracket which makes it easier to install. The Snap In Inverter also opens the inverter like the bonnet of a car, which is another great tool for servicing because it’s easier to get access to the inverter.

The benefit to the owner of the new Fronius inverter from Snap In Inverter technology is less penetrations in the wall relative to other inverters and it’s very easy to service which brings great peace of mind.

Fronius is a manufacturer of string inverters.
