About Suntech

Suntech is a Chinese Manufacturer of Solar panels first founded in September 2001. 

With a slightly chequered financial past, they are today a big player in the international solar industry. After a long period of growth and strong sales they went bankrupt in March 2013 owing over 500M in convertible US Bonds. 

They were bought out by Hong Kong Stock Exchange listed Shunfeng International Clean Energy Limited in 2014.  

Since then they have continued to manufacture panels and contribute to installations all around the world. 

In 2018 their total yearly module shipment exceeded 3GW’s and in 2019 their total historical shipments since they began was over 21GW.

The Suntech Range

Suntech offers a few panels to the Australian residential market. They offer the Suntech Standard Mono 72 Cell, Suntech Standard Poly 120 Half Cell, Suntech Double Glass Standard Poly 60 Cell and HIPro Series which is their most popular.

What Technology Do They Use?

Suntech uses a range of cell technology, they manufacture polycrystalline, monocrystalline and polycrystalline double glass.

Let's Talk Warranty

Suntech’s product warranty across all 3 ranges is 12 years, they have one other panel with a 15 year product warranty which is the HIPro Series, aligned with other cheap chinese solar manufacturers.

Standard Mono 72 Cell – 97% nominal power for the first year and will decline by no more than 0.7% per year with an output of 80.2% at 25 years.

Suntech Standard Poly 120 Half Cell – 97.5.% nominal power for the first year and will decline by no more than 0.7% per year with an output of 80.7% at 25 years.

Suntech Double Glass Standard Poly 60 Cell – 97.5.% nominal power for the first year and will decline by no more than 0.7% per year with an output of 80.7% at 25 years.

HIPro Series – 97.5.% nominal power for the first year and will decline by no more than 0.7% per year with an output of 80.7% at 25 years

Suntech being a Chinese manufacturer manufactures most of its solar panels in China.

Do They Have An Australian Presence?

Suntech does have an Australian office which is good when it comes to warranty claims or any support needed. 

What Do They Look Like?

Most of the Suntech range is very plain and simple. They do have an all black module which looks very much like a plasma screen TV, you just can’t watch the footy on your roof.
